Writing Replay Anywhere FAQ
Last updated: May 21, 2026
What is Writing Replay Anywhere? A GPTZero Chrome extension feature that automatically records your typing on supported sites so you can generate a sharable "replay" that proves you wrote your draft yourself. The recorder stays on until you turn it off.
Where does this data go while I'm typing? Is it secure from other Chrome extensions and web applications? Your keystrokes are captured locally by the GPTZero extension and sent over HTTPS directly to GPTZero's servers. The data lives in the extension's isolated storage (not in the page DOM), so other extensions and the website you're writing on cannot read it.
What data is being saved? Only what's needed to reconstruct your writing process on the supported sites: an ordered changelog of insertions, deletions, and paste events from the editor you're typing in, plus the page title and URL of that document. We do not capture content from other tabs, your clipboard outside of pastes into the recorded editor, passwords, form fields, or anything you type on sites that aren't supported.
When do you save it? Continuously while you type on a supported page. Edits are batched and uploaded in the background a few seconds after you stop typing, so your replay stays in sync without slowing the editor.
Where can I see what was saved? Click the GPTZero pill in the top toolbar of any supported page to open your replay. You can also see every replay tied to your account at dashboard.gptzero.me/writing-reports.
When is it deleted?
You can delete any replay from the dashboard at any time, and it's removed from our systems.
If you delete your GPTZero account, all replays tied to it are deleted.
Replays for signed-out / anonymous sessions are retained for 30 days and then automatically deleted.
Who can access my data? By default, only you (the logged-in GPTZero account that recorded it). A replay is only viewable by someone else if you explicitly share its link. GPTZero staff can access stored data only when required for support requests you initiate, abuse investigations, or legal compliance.
How do I turn this off? Any of these will stop recording:
Click the power icon on the GPTZero pill on any supported page → Hide on this site (disables that one site) or Disable in the consent popup (turns it off everywhere).
Open the GPTZero extension popup & toggle off Record button on text boxes.
Uninstall or disable the GPTZero extension in
chrome://extensions.
Turning it off stops new recordings immediately. Existing replays stay in your account until you delete them.
