Why am I logged out of GPTZero when I close or restart my browser?
Last updated: December 15, 2025
If you find that GPTZero logs you out every time you close your browser or restart your computer, this is usually caused by browser settings that automatically delete cookies or site data when the session ends.
GPTZero relies on cookies to keep you signed in between browser sessions. If those cookies are cleared, you will be logged out.
Most common cause
Your browser is set to clear cookies and site data when you close it. This can happen due to:
A privacy setting enabled in your browser
A specific browser profile configuration
Certain privacy or security extensions
This issue is most commonly seen in Chrome or Edge and may only affect one browser profile, for example your personal profile but not a work profile.
How to fix it in Google Chrome
Go here: chrome://settings/content/siteData?search=on-device+site
set to "Allow sites to save data on your device"
or, just add
[*.]gptzero.meto "Allowed to save data on your device"
How to fix it in Microsoft Edge
go here: edge://settings/privacy/clearBrowsingData/clearOnClose
make sure "Cookies and other site data" toggle is disabled
