Does GPTZero train on my submitted text?

Last updated: October 21, 2026

The short answer depends on your account type. Here is a breakdown:

Account type

Used for model training?

Paid individual

No

Team plan

No

API users

No

Teachers & institutional customers

No — regardless of plan

Free users

Possibly — anonymized only

Free users

If you are on a free account, GPTZero may use anonymized submissions to improve the detection model's accuracy. This primarily helps reduce false positives for everyone. We do not use your data to build generative AI or share it with any third party.

Teachers and institutional customers

Regardless of whether you are on a free or paid plan, if you are using GPTZero as a teacher or under an institutional contract, your submissions are never used for model training. Student writing you submit is used solely to produce the detection result you requested.

How to delete your data

You can delete any scan from your document history at any time at app.gptzero.me/app/documents. Deleted submissions are permanently removed and are also excluded from any future model training runs. Our retraining pipeline checks for deleted accounts before each cycle.

API users

Text submitted through the GPTZero API is not stored by default. Each API call is processed and discarded immediately after the result is returned. API users can opt in to dashboard storage if they want to view results later, but this does not change the no-training policy.
