What data does GPTZero collect when I use it?

Last updated: October 21, 2026

GPTZero collects two types of information: account data and scan content.

Account data

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and any information associated with your login method (email/password or SSO). We also collect standard usage data - features used, scan counts, and pages visited - to operate the service and improve the product.

Scan content

When you submit text through the GPTZero dashboard, app, or Chrome extension (Origin), that text is stored to allow you to access your scan history. You can view, manage, and permanently delete your scan history at any time at app.gptzero.me/app/documents.

What we recommend for educators

GPTZero does not track whose text you submit - we have no way of knowing student identity from the text itself.

API

Text submitted through the API is not stored unless you have explicitly opted in to dashboard storage. By default, API calls are processed in real time and discarded after the result is returned.

You can find the full list of what we collect and how we use it in our Privacy Policy and Trust Center.
