Are you storing data from API calls?
Last updated: October 19, 2026
By default, we do not store the documents passed into calls to our AI detection API. We wanted to be overly cautious on the side of storing data from any organizations using our API.
There are two exceptions:
Scan persistence. If you turn on Persist scan results under Scan Persistence on your API key page, scan inputs and AI detection results for all of your API keys are saved and visible in your Documents. You can turn this off at any time. Bibliography scans through the API require scan persistence to be on.
We also store inputs from calls made from our dashboard (the websites gptzero.me or app.gptzero.me). This data is only used in aggregate by GPTZero to further improve the service for our users. You can refer to our privacy policy for more details.
Based on the same fact that we do not share data with any third parties, checking your text or document for AI with our tools will not have it flagged by plagiarism-checking tools.
