What is AI Vocabulary?
Last updated: October 23, 2026
AI Vocabulary flags words and phrases GPTZero’s models associate with AI writing, and suggests replacements. A match is not the AI detection score. The result says these words are often used by AI, but a text that contains them is not necessarily AI-generated.
How to open it
After a Basic Scan, choose AI Vocab in the results. That view is titled Replace your AI vocabulary. Choose Go to Advanced Scan to see AI Vocabulary. This prompt shows when the Basic Scan result is not classified as human. If you are not logged in, opening it asks you to sign up.
You can also start it before you look at a Basic Scan result. Select Advanced AI Scan before you scan. AI Vocabulary runs with that scan. In the results, choose AI Vocab.
On the AI Vocabulary page, paste your text and choose Scan for AI Vocabulary. The check needs at least 250 characters.
How to read the results
The heading is Top AI Vocabulary. Under it, the result says “Words that appear frequently in our dataset.” A note says “These words are often used by AI, but texts with these words are not necessarily AI-generated.”
Matches are listed under Matches. Beside each one, Frequency in AI Documents is Very high, High, Moderate, or Low.
Select a match to jump to it in the document. The result shows how many times more likely an AI model is to use that phrase than a human. Under Alternatives, choose a replacement. The suggestions are labeled Academic, Business, Simple, Casual, and Creative. While they load, it says “Searching for alternatives...” If none are found, it says “No alternatives available.”
If nothing matches, it says “We did not find any common AI vocabulary in your text.”
